ECCO began in 1963, when Birthe and Karl Toosbuy sold all their possessions and moved to the rural village of Bredebru, Denmark to realise their dream of creating a shoe company driven by the Scandinavian design philosophy of form follows function. Karl Toosbury wanted to make shoes that did not need to be broken in, shoes that fit likes a glove, straight from the box. ECCO is still owned by the Toosbuy family to this day, and so the company's revolutionary philosophy has always remained the same - to create shoes that are comfortable, last longer and enable people to move naturally.
ECCO - The brand which changed shoemaking.
Fuelled by pioneering spirit and a determination to make shoes with natural comfort, ECCO has come a long way over the past 50 years; from a single factory building with just a few employees, to a modern global shoe enterprise with sales of over 20 millions pairs per year across 87 countries. Despite this growth, ECCO is still owned by the Toosbuy family to this day, and so the company's revolutionary philosophy has always remained the same - to create shoes that are comfortable, last longer and enable people to move naturally.
ECCO remain unique as the only major shoe company to own and control their own production and manufacturing process, with many of their own tanneries and factories across the world. Always looking to the future, ECCO is a pioneer in fusing new technology, European design and traditional craftsmanship with a profound understanding of the human foot and how it works. ECCO constantly innovate their ability to make shoes that follow the foot. The combination of soft leathers, flexible, cushioned, hardwearing sole and ECCO's unique flair for design has created the ECCO shoes we know today.
