The Shoes To Wear For Late Summer Walks
With the end of summer on the horizon, have you made the most of the warmer days?
If you’re looking to get out and about and enjoy the last of the summer sun, why not head out on a family walk? There are a huge array of stunning locations right here in the UK, that both you and the kids are sure to love.
Join us at Shoon as we run through some of our favourite family walk locations, alongside the footwear you need to keep you comfortable throughout your day out.
This stunning rock cliff formation is set within the Yorkshire Dales, and the walk there is easily accessible with a buggy. Once there, adults and bigger kids can climb the stone steps and reach the summit – a white limestone platform, on which scenes were filmed for the Harry Potter films!
Winnie the Pooh Walk
Ashton Forest, East Sussex
Aside from its natural beauty, the Ashton Forest in East Sussex is famous for being the setting of the Winnie the Pooh stories – meaning your kids are certain to love it! There are multiple walks, many buggy friendly, offering real-life glimpses at locations from the well-loved tales.
County Antrim, Ireland
If sea views are your thing, how about a walk along the Irish Causeway coast? There are four walking trails to choose from: we’d recommend the Green Trail, which is easily doable with a buggy, and benefits from fences across the cliff tops for extra reassurance with wandering little ones.
Stepping Stones Walk
Box Hill, Surrey
The Stepping Stones walk at Box Hill offers incredible views, from grassy hills to lustrous woodland, and of course the iconic stepping stones across the river. You can follow the route straight over the stones or if you have younger kids or a buggy to contend with, there is also a stunning riverside route with an accessible bridge.
Of course, for any of these walks, you need to be fully prepared with the right footwear. And, if you’re looking for comfortable shoes for walking, you’ve come to the right place! Here are just a few of our top picks:
For any tougher walks, a pair of leather ankle boots is ideal for keeping your feet and ankles fully protected. With their comfortable fleece lining and tracked rubber sole for exceptional grip, we’d recommend the Daniel Reid Tan Leather Lace Up Ankle Boots.
Or, for the more casual walk, opt for a practical pair of trainers. The Daniel Kicks Grey Knitted Woven Lace Up Trainers feature a woven upper for ventilation, while the padded lining, rubber sole and elasticated panel offer comfort and a perfect fit. The Merrell Rant Trainer is also a fantastic choice, with a removable EVA insole for stability and shock absorption.
Again, for tougher walks, your footwear needs to be up to the job. The Sorel Out N About boots are our number one choice. With fully waterproof leather uppers, a moulded sole for fantastic grip, and a supportive, ankle length design, these practical walking boots are a must for lovers of the great outdoors.
For less intense walking trips, a pair of trainers is perfect for keeping your feet comfortable all day long. The Fitflop Uberknit Pewter Slip-On Sneakers offer featherlight comfort, while the Ash Virgin Black Leather High Top Trainer offer practical ankle support.
